Dasa Project

Welcome to the DASA Project, a place where innovation and excellence meet to shape a better future!

What is the DASA Project?

The DASA Project involves development of an underground uranium mine, and construction of a processing plant capable of handling 1,000 tonnes of ore per day. Construction for the mine and processing plant is set to begin in mid-2024, with commissioning planned for the end of 2025.

Benefits of the Project

: The DASA Project is expected to create numerous direct and indirect jobs, contribute significant tax revenues for Niger, and stimulate economic growth at various levels.

Environmental, Social, and Governance

The Dasa Project, having completed a thorough environmental and social impact study, received an Environmental Compliance Certificate and follows a robust Management Plan since 2022. Adhering to international standards, this plan showcases SOMIDA’s commitment to sustainable development and local community engagement, with a focus on using local labor and suppliers and closely monitoring environmental conditions throughout the project’s lifespan.

History

Société Minière de DASA SA (SOMIDA), is  a partnership between the Republic of Niger and Global Atomic Corporation*. The company was established on August 11, 2022, in advance of the launch of the underground mine development at the DASA uranium deposit. The official start of this development was marked by an Opening Blast Ceremony on November 5, 2022.

Location

The DASA Project is situated in the heart of Niger’s Agadez region, an area with a five-decade history of successful uranium mining. Nestled between the mining hubs of Arlit and Agadez, the Project benefits from its strategic position. It is just 40 kilometers north of Tchirozérine and a mere 5 kilometers east of the RN-25 highway, adjacent to Tagaza village (see attached map).

Geology

The Dasa deposit in the western Aïr region, characterized by discordant graben-type structures from the Cambrian to the Cretaceous periods, boasts high uranium levels. The deposit lies within a depth range of 80 to 600 meters. See Exploration page for more.

Operating Life

Based on the 2021 Phase 1 Feasibility Study, a starter mine, representing approximately 20% of the known Dasa’s resources, is expected to operate for 12 years. The results from a drilling program concluded in 2022, suggest an extension of the mine’s life.

Structure

SOMIDA Company is efficiently structured, operating from two primary locations: Niamey and the DASA mine site.
